During our visit to Rotterdam, we stopped off at the Het Nieuwe Instituut. As we were looking for the lockers to place our bags in, we came across the New Haberdashery - a sewing studio, fashion workshop and fabric shop that provides visitors and regular attendees the chance to learn and try out their sewing skills freely and openly.

The open and available nature of this haberdashery was particularly inspiring for me, as I had found that it allowed me to think about how such a space would work in my own scheme. The moment itself was a moment of mindless experimentation, but the facilities and the environment that induced that idea of creating a gigantic paper airplane are something that I would love to replicate in my project.

In the same space, there was a paper airplane exhibition, which encouraged the younger visitors to experiment with different folding techniques to create their own gliders. The open nature of the space allowed for the paper airplanes to be tested freely. We utilised the two spaces in order to attempt to create a much bigger plane, which didn't fly as well as we might have imagined.
